My 30-year-plus professional writing career began in the trenches of small-town Texas newspapers. But my wanderlust led to long-term writing and editing assignments in places as far flung as the Marshall Islands and Antarctica. After a decade of freelance gigs and pet-sitting assignments, I'm on sabbatical from at least one of them.
